Tooth Extraction in Charleston, Camden, Summerville, James Island & West Ashley, SC
What Is a Tooth Extraction?
Our team always explores restorative options first, such as fillings, crowns, or root canal therapy. If none of these will save your tooth, we recommend extraction and will walk you through every step of the process.
Signs You Might Need a Tooth Extraction
- Severe tooth decay, in which the damage extends deep into the tooth and cannot be restored with a filling or crown.
- Advanced gum disease, which loosens the tooth by destroying the supporting bone and tissue.
- A cracked or broken tooth with damage extending below the gum line.
- Serious infection that does not respond to root canal treatment or antibiotics.
- Impacted wisdom teeth, which grow at an angle, crowd nearby teeth, or cause pain and swelling.
- Overcrowding, where teeth need to be removed before orthodontic treatment, such as clear aligners.
- A baby tooth that refuses to fall out and blocks the adult tooth from coming in.
Types of Tooth Extraction We Offer
Simple Extraction
Surgical Extraction
A surgical extraction is required for a tooth broken at the gum line or trapped beneath the gums, such as an impacted wisdom tooth. Your dentist makes a small incision in the gum to access and remove the tooth. Sedation options are available to keep you relaxed throughout the procedure.
